We Communicate
“Say it, say it again, and then say it one more time.” This is part of our philosophy. We believe that good communication is foundational to who we are. We also see it as our responsibility to initiate. For us, it’s personal because we are relational. Our alliance with you is not a “deal” but a “relationship”, one we hope will last way past your Building Project.
Good communication is balanced, consistent, and well-rounded. As I said, it starts with listening but proceeds like a clock at a ticking pace that answers questions even as they are anticipated, many times before they are even asked. It is well-rounded in the sense that it includes all the bright minds it takes to create your solutions. A talented team’s chemistry with consistent communication will provide the safety, balance, and the outcome you deserve.
We believe that consistent communication requires a system in which to operate. The military is a good example of this. In the Service, there is no question about when to wake up, go to bed, eat, march, stand down, or fight. You do not have to wonder what is going on or what is next. The communication system takes care of that and keeps everyone on the same page.
At JH Batten, we set up a communication routine with you from the beginning of your Project. There are monthly meetings and weekly reports, more when necessary, and there is always a point of contact for you that is reachable within minutes. This is a big deal for us. We want you to feel comfortable and know that you are in good hands with us.
We Measure
It has been said that “What can be measured can be improved.” This is why we constantly measure our Service to you, our customer. It is important to us that your Project goes smoothly for YOU and that nothing about the process brings unwanted stress.
It is obvious that much measuring takes the place of all the parts and pieces of your Building Structure so that it goes together correctly but what is not so obvious is the many measurements of management we do to ensure a smooth delivery of your Construction Project.
There are Daily Field Reports and pictures that are reviewed by several layers of our staff, Two Week Look Ahead Reports that make sure we are tracking with the schedule, The Schedule itself that is the roadmap by which we march, The Budget, Safety Inspections, and Staff and Job-Site Meetings. There is the Weekly Progress Report to you, our client, that summarizes these things for you and holds us accountable. Our minds are deep into your Project, and that is the way it should be.
These tools allow us to know immediately when something is off and needs adjusting. This allows us to move swiftly and proactively. You should expect no less.
We Perform
The tools I have mentioned help us do our job for you, but the key to our performance is our people. Yes, they are skilled and qualified, but most importantly, they care. They care about you and your Project. They care about doing what is right, every time. They care about their word and honor it when they give it. They care about their families and understand that the best long-term way to take care of their families is to take care of yours now.
Performance can be measured. Character cannot. Character is a thing you either have or you don’t. The score is either 100% or 0%. In today’s world, with Building Codes and Engineering being what it is, in many ways, all buildings are the same. What is not the same is Construction Companies. Believe me, they are not all created equally.
You will be pleased with our performance, and you will enjoy our relationship. As I said before, For us, It’s personal.
Summary
“So, what about the ‘Beautiful Building?’ Do I still get that?” Of course, you do, if that is what is important to you. You are the Chief and, as such, are our priority.
We will stand beside you and lead the team for you. We will bring perspective to you and challenge your thinking. We will help you consider ideas and options. We will assist you in identifying your expectations. We will listen to you. We will measure our progress for you, and we will perform with excellence.
Final Building Inspections and Certificates of Occupancy are always big days for us, but what really makes us happy is when you say, “Thanks guys. It has been a great experience working with you.”
