Managing a commercial building project can be cumbersome and tedious at its best, and disastrous at its worst. - Do you really believe that all Contractors are equal? Really? Are all Doctors equal too? Are all Politicians honest? Hmmm….That hurt, I know.
If you are still reading please allow me to introduce us and, in the spirit of transparency, I have just one goal with this. We want to be your Commercial Builder.
Our History
September 2020 marked our thirtieth year in business having completed somewhere around 800 projects completed – and I’m still a young man! Well, maybe not so much. In being transparent, I’ve been in the construction business for 40 years now.
I started JH Batten in 1990. Since then, I’ve had the honor of working with some really incredible clients, and I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by an incredibly talented group of folks who make this machine run. In fact, most of the JH Batten staff has over 20 years with the company, and our combined construction experience is something like 500 years. And as old as some of us are, the fact is we love to come to work every day and help our clients succeed with their projects. And we’re all not that old. JH Batten has some young, hard-working go-getters, and are constantly looking for more. Think about it. What better environment can you think of to train the younger generation than with experience all around them watching their backs?
I like our closely-knit family-like staff now. I feel safe with them and am confident in the quality of the products and services we deliver to our clients.

For Us, It’s Personal
At JH Batten, we are real, not the “let me impress you with how great I am” kind of people. We don’t say one thing and do another unless we check with you first.
Our people genuinely care about our company and our customers. We care about each other and help each other succeed. We behave as if we answer to a higher being, which we do. We live it, we don’t just say it.
When you hire us to lead or be a part of your construction lineup, everyone on your JH Batten team sees it as an honor. We assume responsibility. We take it personally if you’re not totally satisfied, and we celebrate with you when you are. The team cares for you and your goals, and I believe you’ll find their sincerity and service to be refreshing. Don’t underestimate the value in that as you look to take on a project.
Checks and Balances
We’re good, but we’re not perfect. We have a flaw. We are a company made up of human beings and because of that, we sometimes make mistakes. However, it is what we have done with those mistakes that make a difference.
Whenever a mistake is made, we stop and ask “Why?” We usually have a formal conversation about it and come out with a system, or improvement to our existing system, to keep it from happening again. The great news is we have made 30 years of mistakes, and it is an amazing System of Checks and Balances now.
Our success is born out of not only knowing what works but also from knowing what does not.
Our Transparency
Most Contractors hide things. We don’t. Our favorite deal is “open book” where you see everything. Why shouldn’t it be that way? I believe you should see what you are getting before you buy it, you should benefit if it can be done for less and you should not have to wonder where the money went.
Transparency avoids surprises and, like all clear communication, it deflects conflict. It is a peaceful and enjoyable path because trust is its center.
This is just “our normal.” I hope you find rest in that when you choose us.
Our Philosophy
We are relational. We want to work with you as a team. We want our Vendors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers to feel like they are a team member and not a tool. We want you to like us and us to like you, even at the end of your Project. We want to build your next building because you can’t imagine doing it with someone else, and we know you will share your experience with others.
There is safety for US in that.

We are honest, hardworking people. We believe in doing what we say we will do. We admit our mistakes and take responsibility for them. We treat you like we want to be treated. We build quality projects and stand behind them. We will never take from you and will give more than you imagined.

Our Heart
Our Company is made of individuals. These individuals each have unique gifts and talents. It is the combination of these talents that form the whole. It is what makes us great at what we do.
